Default Nail in Sidewall of tire (not tread) - Does tire need to be replaced?

Took my car in for rotation and techs discovered a good sized nail sticking out of the inside sidewall of the tire.

Tires are literally brand new as of 4 months ago.

Techs said that i should replace the tire because it cannot be patched or plugged adequately since they are low profile performance tires (michelin pilot sport a/s) and the nail is not near any steel belt parts of the tire.

$200+ to replace a single tire however.

Does their logic sound reasonable? They patched it temporarily for me to drive until new tire is ordered, but said it is very prone to blowouts now...

Yes, you can not repair a sidewall.

Default Unfortunately your tech is correct. No repairs to sidewalls. If the tire is new perhaps there is...

Some kind of road hazard that comes with it. The usually check the tread wear and depreciate it accordingly.

I got a flat not too long after I bought my tires - my dealer allowed me to buy the replacement plan retroactively for all 4 tires (~$50)....then told me to come in 3 days later and say, that I had a flat tire - and he replaced it for "free". nice guy, saved me $50-100.

Slime it. Worked on Mother-n-Law's sidewall. WRC uses it. You need a 12v pump to do it right.
