Default nav+ afficianados
Does the nav controls on my '02 work w/ the rsn-e unit or would these controls be rendered useless upon nav+ intallation?

Default they would be useless
all controls would be performed from the main head unit

Default Correct, that operates the Nav that came with B5 S4's and cars with DIS Navigation
Not Nav "Plus"
