Hi, I need help in deciphiring a couple of things the dealer did for my 3 year/60,000 km maintenance. I am reading off the service invoice they gave me...

1) "replace evap purge valve"
What is that, and why would it need to be replaced.

2) "update ecm software"
the service advisor said this was standard on the 3 year maintenance service and it has something to do with emissions. now my question is would this update overwrite my REVO software. the car doesn't feel like it's any different but that could be all psychological.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Your purge valve, (which gets its power from the fuel pump) most likely was stuck open. Some refer as the N80 which is part of the EVAP. This is why they replaced.
As far as updating your ECM. Well that's exactly what they did. Updated the computer in your car.
No, it does not overwrite your Revo software.

I've had issues with the solenoid on the evap purge valve failing twice already and both times dealer replaced the part.

As far as Revo goes I got the updated ECU software and it has not affected the performance of the Revo chip.

thanks. what happens when the valve is stuck open? what negative effects occur?
