Did some reading on the Ross-Tech site but it is all very confusing to this tech novice. Key-Com, Key-USB? It's all to confusing to me.

I got the Key-USB. It works for all B6 cars. B7 functionality is somewhat limited afaik.

new VAG cars need CAN, ours don't so... if you plan to buy a late model VAG you'll want CAN

You really only have four choices.

First, some easy choices. The -COM units have serial connections, so you will need a computer or with a serial port. The -USB units have USB communications, so you only need a USB port.

The HEX+CAN units add functionality that allows you to communicate and work with the systems in the newer cars. For example, I needed that functionality when I added the RNS-E and Bluetooth systems to my B6. The added functionality has also come in handy since my brother bought a B7.

So, if you want USB and added functionality for newer systems and the newest cars, get the KEY-USB+CAN. If you want the same thing in serial, get the KEY-COM+CAN.

If you don't need the added functionality and don't plan on getting a newer VAG car in the future, get either the KEY-USB or the KEY-COM, with either USB or serial communcations, respectively.

ordered the key-usb last friday and had package containing Hex-Usb which is pricier delivered yesterday, apparently they don't have the Key-Usb in stock, so if you order now you might just get a $299 gizmo for $149, had to cough out another $70 just to have it shipped to Nigeria
