Default Need Help for Sound!!

I can't stand my weak Bose sub anymore and I decided to do something about it with minimal cost. I have no knowledge of car subs and amps so I will need some input here.

1. Can I buy an amp and hook it directly from the wire that lead to my stock rear sub? Or do I need hook up the new amp to the head unit?

2. If I am going to run 1 sub what amp should I get? A mono, a 2 channel, a 4 channel?

3. To power up a 400W RMS Sub, how much power of a amp should I get?

I appreciate any input. Thanks

Default It's cheaper to go with a 2channel amp and bridge it...

most amps will list their rms output, so if you want to power a sub rated at 400rms (i assume max) any amp rated to put out 300-400 watts rms should be fine.

installation is a snap...check out the audio forum for instructions for how to wire the amp and sub.

Default Depends how many ohms your sub is.

once you figure out what sub you want, you can decide if you want to get a 2channel or 1 channel. I have a sub, that i run a 500watt to at 4ohms (bridged)

Default unless you are a bass monger then you will be happy with a single 10" or 12"

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/27636/dsc01724_small.jpg"></center><p>Check out my pic poster..
single 10" ..relatively small box (which is laying flat now btw so in the pic it actually is taking up more room than usual).
and a relatively small amp ..2ch bridged.
TRUST ME.. I have the amp turned to 1/2 way and bass on headunit turned to ZERO and its still often A LOT (wont say too much but it might as well be too much) Bass. I even installed a cut off switch to the remote wire so I can cut the sub off when I feel like the bass is too much !
A proper amp which has a good crossover is a must ..in my case I used an external active crossover. Crossed over at 60hz..
Im VERY happy..like I said..you can get MORE bass..and DEEPER bass.. but for me my setup is enough and it doesnt rattle pieces off the car or make you sound like a bass monger. Its PLENTY.. (when I was in highschool I used to run 500watt 2 12"s but these days I dont really want that kind of base..single ten is tight and nice.
check out the pic poster for stealth amp install

Default just got a 1050W PEAK 2ch amp, with a 12" JL w3v2....

Its a bit much, and I lost too much trunk space...
I'm going swap with a 10" next week.. LOVE the 12, but it can get a bit much, so the 10 should be perfect.
