An oil change with filter on the B6. If possible can you give me those figures in litres and US quarts. I would like to know from 2002 and 2003 ownwers only because on the AW tech section it says 4.0 litres or 4.2 US quarts, which is NOT what the owner's manual says, it says 3.5 litres or 3.7 US quarts with a filer so there is a difference of 0.5 litres.

Thanks

Default Mine reads; 3.7 qts for 1.8t

I always have some left over whether it is from using 4 qts or 4 liter containers (somewhat due to the Mecca filter I use). I think the OEM filter holds more oil in it. Also, I'm not sure if that 3.7 qt in the manual includes a filter change - I'm assuming it is.

Thanks, read my new post (up above) for some important oil info for the 1.8T.

I put in all 4 liters, and it took them fine. We'll see if there are any issues. I doubt it though.

Default That's very odd...

I think you drank some ; )

4 liters = 4.227 qts. Either that K&N filter absorbed more then OEM, the liter is not a liter, or somethings up with the engines oil capacity.

I have always had leftover from using either qt or l containers. Even with the dipstick slightly showing past full from my last change, I had some leftover from the 2 x 2 liters containers. I know the Mecca filter holds less then the OEM, but I don't think it's the difference we're seeing here.

Where is the oil line on the dipstick? Did you know the "fill" is at the "dots" and not at the "bend"?

Default I'll have to check it again, but...

I think the oil was right at the end of the line, or maybe a little passed. It wasn't to the bend yet though.

As far as the capacity goes, everything I read online and in the book led me to 4.2 quarts. Our bottles said 1L (1.05 qrt), which would equal 4.2 quarts. I'm sure I'll burn off a little, so if I'm over by a bit, I'm not that worried. If it's to or above the bend when I check warm, I'll definitely have to suck a little out...I need to each more veggies anyway.

Big thanks again, btw. With that and the snub, it feels totally different. I can definitely feel the snub at idle. It vibrates like massage chair. Once up and running though, everything is soooo smooth. It's a happier drive now than before, if that's possible.

Default Still strange... that's a .5 qt difference from 3.7 qts to 4.2 qts.

That's a good amount. Also, I think when the dipstick shows no oil on the raised "dot" pattern, that is 1 qt low. So from the top "filled" line, to the bend, might be 1/4 qt or so. Mine was over filled slightly, so that's why this is so strange to me, because I have oil leftover from 4 liters (even with using the Mecca filter). I guess we'll never know why.

The snub probably counteracted the oils affect though; since it makes more vibration.

One of these days we'll figure it out. I even checked Audi USA for specs, and it comes back with 4.2Q. Not sure if that's before or after the filter size change you mentioned. The whole thing is just like the service interval change. Same engines, different guidelines...

As for the vibration, it's just at 900rpm idle. As soon as I touch the gas, it goes away. So, I CAN really feel the difference with the two. The oil when driving at speed and accelerating, and the snub when shifting (hard shifting especially).
