Derated

Hey there. Since the weather's gotten warmer up here in the Northeast I've been spending a lot more time driving with the windows down. Not always a good thing, since you are able to pay more attention to some of the subtle nuances about the car - as in this case.

I head over a bump and I get a RATTLE coming from the driver's side underside. With 57,000 miles on an '02 I can't see how I'm in need of anything new suspension-related but has anyone ever experienced this so early-on? For comparison's sake, yesterday I was driving behind an old Mercury Grand Marquis beater piece of shiitake and the same loose, rattly sounds coming from up ahead of me (albeit way more pronounced) suddenly sounded a lot like mine as I trotted over the same bumps.

it could be the locking nut at the top of the strut tower too. No reason to suspect you need new shocks though.

With the car on a jack, wiggle the wheel to see if it makes noise.
