Default need suggentions - i'm about to get the Pioneer AVIC-80 dvd Navigation...

with the stand alone 6.5" screen.

Anyone with opinions and/or experience with this system?
does it need to hook up to the Speed sensor wire(s)

are you looking to compare with other nav systems? personally, i think the kenwood dvd nav is so far the best. very easy to use and it has a larger database, a little pricey than most but nice. i hope to get it in a couple of months.

Default I have been using the AVIC-90DVD model...

which is the same as the 80model except the 80 model has new software in it that allows for touch screen capability. I can and will upgrade mine to the 80 model with the software update as soon as i get my car. I am very happy with the pioneer model. Has never failed me yet.

Default questions for you Jon...

- does the system show your vehicle speed?
- does it need to connect to the Vehicle Speed sensor?
- easy to install?
- any problems/glitches at all?

The unit does not display the actual speed but does have a analog graphic style guage that gives you an idea. Its not meant to be a speedometer.

It does not need to connect to tge VSS but you will get better results if you do. Th VSS wire is actuallyu easy to get to on the A4. Check this thread. http::/forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/344452.phtml

The more stuff you add to the system the more complicated it gets. The pioneer stuff connects via ip-bus which is nice but when you have as many things as i had in my passat you have to daisy chain stuff. Its not that bad though. The products come with good instruction manuals.

I originally bought the avic-p9dvd nav which was their first dvd based nav. It worked really well. then i updated it via the software disc to the 90dvd model and that added alot of neat features to it. Really improved the interface.

I am currently selling my pioneer avic-p7300dvd screen but i am sticking with pioneer. Very happy with it.
