New to these forums but not new to Audi. Have been a proud owner of my A4 for two years and have done all my own work on it. I also have eBahn Service Manuals for the car so if people need info I can always go back and read up on issues. Have a lot of knowledge of the car. Didn't see a new member thread anywhere so, otherwise I would have posted in there.
Just wanted to run this past you guys and get an opinion. Weird noise that sounds like a whirring, high high pitched hum coming from under the drivers side back seat. I know this to be the fuel pump location but I have no MIL and there is no indication of lost performance. My guess is that the pump is on its way out. Any input?
The noise is not affected by temperature or fuel level. The sound only seems to happen when you first turn the car on and stays noisy for about 3-5 seconds and goes away. Periodically, it will reappear for a second or two especially when sitting at a stop light.
I hope to help others out as much as possible. Thanks guys!

We had a similar problem on our 2004 A4 1.8T, except the whine was constant, not intermittent like yours (I think the car had about 60,000 miles at the time). Audi replaced the fuel pump and filter (pump was under extended warranty, I paid for the filter out of my pocket).
As I recall, the pump died because of an issue with the filter (according to the customer service person).
