The readings of the MAF are taking into account due to load being partially reliant on them as...
well. I wish I could tell you more than the ECU and ESP sytem takes into account a myriad of systoms on the car to work properly.
Interestingly, you will also see an ABS malfuntion with a bad MAF at times. Easy to see. Just run out side and disconnect the sensor plug to your MAF (takes 5 seconds). You now have the ESP light and the CEL light stuck on.

you know, I actually might try that!
Although I'm not sure I want to deal with the CEL on for however many on-off cycles it needs before it resets itself after I reconnect the MAF.
