I am getting a noise in gear on my manual 2002 1.8t. At light or partial throttle, there is a whirr or rattle noise around 2000 rpm. It's very repeatable, and actually sounds very similar to what is described in this thread at another forum:

Once you hear it, it's hard to ignore, and really detracts from my driving of the car. Any suggestions? I've had a passenger try to listen for the noise, and they think that it is coming from below the shifter or that area.
