Default OCT FMIC vs. OEM Duals

This is a pic of the B6 OCT FMIC, with a Caractere bumper. I had to do some extensive cutting and grinding of the Caractere bumper to make it fit on the sides, and although I had to lose my foglights, I'm very happy with the results ( you won't have to lose your foglights with a stock bumper though, thanks Troll for pointing that out) I also got some RS4 grill mesh from LLTek for more air flow. Using the empty foglight housing on the right side I ran a 3" tube up to the T28 Cone intake filter for Cold Air.

I had the OEM Dual Intercoolers prior. Currently I'm running the T28, but it is tuned conservatively at the moment. The car should be fully tuned by the end of this month.

I must tell you I'm not an expert at this but doing some simple testing using my Prodiag tool, I measured the intake temps for both setups under the same conditions and concluded that the OCT FMIC ranged from 6C-10C cooler under 4 consecutive hard runs. After each run the Duals got a little hotter but the OCT FMIC stayed right around the same temp.

The biggest difference was the OCT FMIC was as much as 20C cooler at idle after the hard runs, thus heatsoak is not an issue with the FMIC, albiet when I got the car going again the Duals would cool back down.

Another improvement with the FMIC is that Turbo lag was reduced a bit and I feel more pull throughout. The piping on the OCT FMIC is not as twisted as the Dual setup is.

If you want more extensive testing results comparing the two setups, do a search in the TT forum under TTschwing and a few others, the 225HP TT boys did more elaborate and specific testing and found the OCT FMIC temps to be much lower than their OEM Duals. I wish I had been able to test my K03 chipped with both setups. I was very happy with the Duals while running it. I would expect the FMIC to still perform better with that setup as well.

I know this has been debated over and over and both sides have points, I've found myself over these last six months going back and forth on which setup to run, after having both systems IMO a well designed FMIC is far better. I know there's only a few out there. OCT is pricey but very well built and it comes with everything you need, there is some cutting but minor with a stock bumper. The End tanks are Cast and they're huge! The Core is not extremely thick but it's tall, all in all a pretty big core. Well worth all the work and $.

Thanks for the great info! I'm leaning in that direction myself.

Default Stratmosphere gave me a great deal

I installed it myself, not too difficult. If you're interested call them. It retails for 1599.00 but they will cut you a great deal. I've bought a few products from them so they went down quite a bit for me.

http://www.stratmosphere.com</a
