Oddly, factory stereo in 2003 A4 doesn't play .mp3 cd's.

Default I understand the technology. I did think it took slightly less time to burn than a regular cd, but

that might well have been my imagination. All the other cd's I've burned work fine. Thanks!

Default actually.. technically you are wrong.. but that's a different argument all together. (long winded)

WAV files (Windows) and AIFF (Macintosh) files are uncompressed sound. However, when "writing" either of these file formats to an Audio CD, there is a different bit ordering that will takes place during the burning processes. Audio CDs are (obviously) uncompressed sounds. But not all uncompressed sounds are equals.

This is another reason why you can't just pop a music CD into a computer and copy WAV files from it. Depending on how its played, if played via the analog channel is played normally. If its played digitally, its actually read and converted into WAV format.

some cd players have problems reading CDs that aren't closed. I've never tried to play one of those.

Default I don't understand a word you just said. All I know is...(m)

... when I convert .mp3 files to .wav files and burn them on a disc, they work on regular CD players (incl. my A4).

Yes. As long as your re playing an Audio format CD it will work. No data formatted CD will not work.
