OEM or PPG for windshield?

OEM or PPG for windshield?
Mine is cracked and needs to be replaced. I've heard talk/rumors of the differences between the OEM and PPG glass (OEM softer?, PPG ???). Any facts about this. Bloody expensive as well for OEM; looking at $466 (glass) + $25 (molding) + $160 (installation). Ouch. Big thanks to that little rock on the freeway.

Several threads on this since Jan. 1, quick summary here...
PPG for the A4 is not domestic PPG glass, it's some European "OEM" glass, no one's quite sure what it is. Could be better, same or worse than the Audi part. Search "PPG" from Jan. 1 here for more details.

No confirmation on any details yet...
I searched/read a few previous posts and it sounds like there is/isn't a PPG glass (that it is some "Euro Specialty" glass perhaps). Not even sure if PPG might be OEM for Audi, or if it is even available here (some say Audi did not release mold for others to make it, or for '02>,.. etc). So far, only Audi OEM. Might just do that unless I get some actual facts from the glass installer that the dealer referred me to.

Just FYI, a local installer quoted me a price for "PPG glass", but...
that's when I started doing research, and the PPG website seems to indicate "PPG glass" is really that European stuff for the A4. Your installer may or may not be aware of this distinction.
