Oil BT: question about useful life of stock dealer synthetic oil...

Physical problems are not the fault of the oil. Are there UOAs on the "blown" engines? All engines have hot spots, a miracle oil is going to save an abused engine, that's silly. What is the oil pressure on these engines? Not many 1.8ts are running the gauage. Were they serviced since new the same way by the same owner? Cars blow engine all the time on the track, regardless of the oil.
AOA seems to feel confident with 10k intervals on spec oil. How do these people with blown engines even know exactly what went into their cars unless they put it in. I really don't give a hoot what "Audi-Specific Tuners" recommend for oil changes, where is their data? Even the term Audi-specific scares me, who are you talking about anyway? My shop developed the GIAC B6 chip with Garett Lim when you were still driving your Camaro or whatever. I would not call the range of cars serviced there "beaters" by any means, the 30 year Master Audi Tech who owns it hold a full competition race licence, do you? Just because you feel good by spending money unnecessarily, the average Audi owner doesn not want to spend the extra time at the dealer and waste $200 a year on oil changes for no good reason.

It really isnt a lot of money. I meant tuners such as actual tuners who service cars not programmers. Tuners that warranty the cars in Europe as well. What does a GIAC chip have to do with this? Again, show me a blown motor on 5K mile changes. I can show you ones on 10k mile changes. That seals it for me. Keep in mind ALL of the B5 1.8T cars have oil temp probes. Lots of data there to take a look at as it is a differnt application than you may be used to. cheers! Mike

Honestly, $100 is about the going rate for a synth OC at the dealer. I would need 4-7 changes a year rather than 2 if I went in at 3000-5000 miles. That's at least $200/year which would be better spent on some fresh suspension parts later in the car's life. For me, oil consumption goes up at 6000-8000 miles, so I dump it and the filter too in just a snap. Other guys might only want to use the inclusive 10k dealer changes and prefer to just the oil extractor and reuse the filter at 5k, that's extremely cost effective since the dealer charges $15 for just a filter. it's much less hassle. My dealer is 45 minutes away, ftr. No way can I say normal drivers NEED a full service w/filter at 5000mi in an engine that was normally serviced with the right oil.
Don't forget that wear is highest with fresh oil and goes down as the oil is in-service. Changing too frequently accelerates wear. As far as tuned cars go, let's not forget stock variants of 1.8t like Too Slick's TT225 that he services at 10k intervals with Mobil 1 0w-40.
