Default Oil changes at the dealer every 10,000 miles only?

I've been paying to get an oil change in between my 10,000mile oil changes. I saw on TV something about synthetic oil and how it really only need a change every 10,000 assuming it is high quality synthetic and that the oil filter is for synthetic oil which will guarantee 10,000 miles..

Is this true? Does the oil filter in the stock A4 support 10,000mile oil changes without risking any problems?

I bought my car and plan to keep it for a while, which is why I think it's just better to be safe and do every 5000 miles.

The 1.8t is a hot turbo motor with a dinky 4qt oil sump. I'd stay at 5K.

Good plan. Easy to do with an oil extractor pump.

Default oem Mann filters say 30,000km/2yr on them.5k on Mobil 1, drain fill & 5k more on filter is fine

See my post below about the Pela oil extractor. 1.8t filter is accessable from under the coolant tank if unscrewed and pulled back. Just doing the oil every other time is perfectly fine. $20 once you have the pump. It also allows full changes w/o getting under the car and removing the belly pan. I can do a full change without putting a knee on the ground.

Default Here's what I know

On the 3.0, I've been changing my oil with synthetic every 4-6K miles without fail, and my car runs great at a quick 48.8K miles. I don't plan to make any changes, and for the small pain in the neck it is to get your oil changed, it can't hurt and probably is really good for your engine. I always change filter when I change oil, I'm not sure if that's excessive or not. Again, I don't really care, I will keep doing that because it's worked so far!

Default I do Mobil One w/Audi OEM filter every 5K miles. I don't care what they say, 10K is too much

Now, with that said, I just got back from the track and changed my oil. It was my 5K interval anyway. I'm curious to see what the analysis comes back with. I've seen some where they actually tell you to increase the intervals between oil changes. We'll see.

I have 65K miles on my 03 3.0.
