Oil filter question...

...going to change the oil and filter (7500 miles). I have a K&N oil filter for a 2002 A4 3.0 (6 cylinders) from a friend who didn't need it. Will this filter fit the 1.8L? I believe the six cylinders use about 5-6 quarts of oil vs. the 4 quarts for the 1.8L, so I was speculating the difference in filters should be the filtering capacity or size. So maybe using this 6-cylinder filter will give some additional filtering (ie; protection), if it fits? Plus is one less oil filter I have to buy. Any suggestions or comments.
Congrats to Audi for another podium finish in Lemans. Still waiting for the day that Audi will compete again in the WRC.

but I don't know exactly what the difference is. Get the correct filter just in case. If the K&N fits, you can return the correct one.
www.germanautoparts.com has some of the best prices on OEM filters (which are very good by the way).

And check with dealer to find out if there is a difference between the 1.8t and 3.0 oil filter (I do not think they are interchangeable).

Once I do the change (oil) I'll repost on the subject. I didn't find much on this w/ a Search, but some threads mentioned that dealers would be hesistant to help if there was some engine "malfunction" and they found the car w/ a non-OEM filter.
Thanks again, always helpful.

...for our cars, both 3.0L and 1.8L, for 2002 year. I guess I'll check w/ the dealer, but have not done yet. I usually don't like to consult the dealer(s) too much (wrong info, attitudes, etc.), just from past experience, unless one has an inside source or a friend working there that can really help out. I'm not saying all dealers are like this, but in general.

I assume the '02 and '03 1.8t oil filters are the same though. So if K&N says it's so, then it must be.
I understand about "asking" the dealer. My dealer has no issues with stuff like this; so I can ask them anything.

I just ordered the OEM (Mann) oil filter and will try the K&N oil filter for fitment when I do my oil change. If it does not fit, I will have the OEM ready. By looks, the filters (1.8L vs. 3.0L) seem different just by the size. The 3.0L is fatter, thus it must have more filtering area. The question is if the "thread mechanism" is the same.

so they're probably hesitant to add Audi if they already have Skoda. What would people think of Audi if suddenly Skoda beat out Audi in WRC?
