Default M1 5w-30 works fine at 10K as well...

Default <shivers>Antiquated.VW 502 is just a re-hash of the old '98 A3 spec.Dino & semis meet it.

<$2 a quart oils can meet the A3 spec. MB 229.3 or VW 503.01 is the real spec to look for.

A3 oils about $2
Valvoline Durablend/Maxlife 10w-40
Castrol Syntec Blend/Start-up 10w-40
Chevron Delo 400 15w-40 (any 15w-40 should pass easily)

Virgin Oil Analysis of Belgian Syntec 5w-40

Default It'll work...

but I wouldn't use it myself. And as long as it has the VW502.00, you're ok with AoA and their "anti-sludge" campaign. VW503.01 is better though.
Thing is, that "approved oil" list is really just made for "ease of use" for US customers finding an approved oil on the shelf at their local auto parts store, since a dealer knows to use an approved synth in the 1.8t.

The M1 0W-40 would have been a better choice. Or I guess the Castrol 0W-30 (SLX) German Made label. And of course Motul's E-Tech 0W-40 is my favorite pick.

Default thanks for the info...

since I'm using Mobil 1, I'll just switch to 0W-40 on my next oil change.
And just a reminder to all who purchase and bring their own oil, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS!
In the event something should go wrong, it's just more documentation of proof that we provided the service depts with the right oil.
