Default Oil- where to get?

I went to Pimp-boys and autozone, and neither had VW spec oil.. I've got it before (Castrol Syntec) and now can't find the dang stuff.. Any common chains have it?

TIA

Wal*Mart has Mobil 1 0w-40, which is speced. There are other good ones too, but....specs.

Default Thick 0w-30 German Syntec meets the newest spec, but discontinued.Syntec 5w-40 meets the old VW502

Mobil 1 0w-30 is too thin for spec. New Mobil 1 10w-30 Hi-Miles is thick enough and would meet the spec if tested. It carries the generic Euro ACEA A3 spec, which is the basis for VW 502 spec. M1 10w-40 meets A3 too....but if you want a Mobil that meets VW spec, 0w-40 is it. W*M also carries the Mobil 1 TDT 5w-40, awsome ester base oil, but is a bit more expensive.

Default I just got german castrol 0w-30 at autozone about a month ago

The US formula is not the same stuff. I'm under the impression that autozone is the only place that carries the german stuff. Some stores have it, others don't.

Default A5 sequence is the same as A3, just thinner. I use A5 Saab"Turbo"Synth 0w-30 aka Mobil 1 LL-Polar

The AMSoil 0w-30 has HT/HS at 3.4cP, but claims VW 502. I think AMSoil is great, but prefer getting discount OTC oil and frankly, in non-turbos dino oil is better. I want to see a turbo oiling system that is independent of motor sump oil. Makes sense.

Default It's being discontinued. The US made old stuff has a yellow 0w-30 label and date codes <M02

No Euro specs, obviously.
