No VoIP yet but thinking about it...
I have my VZ local/long distance/wireless and fiber on the same bill and get good discounts already. I make a lot of overseas calls and the VoIP discounts aren't as low as I am paying right now. The fact that the 911 dial function is not perfected yet worries me. Also, I need one old-school line anyway incase of power failure.

what is ACT2005?
do you need both laptops to access it simultaneously? or do you just want to be able to access the program from both computers?
as long as all 3 computers are on the LAN of your router they'll see each other as configured.. the broadband would be hooked to the WAN port of the router (NETGEAR WGR614 or LINKSYS WRT54G).. put all 3 computers on dhcp to get assigned IP's from the router.. use the TCP/IP stack on each computer (set via OS).. each computer should see each other on the network neighbourhood window..

'main broadband to the desktop'
I hope you mean to the WAN of the router.. and then the desktop is connected with a cat5 cable to a LAN port on your Linksys router.
Otherwise I'd interpret what you said as being the ethernet-broadband output of your cable modem or dsl going directly to the desktop, and then internet sharing turned 'on' on the desktop and connecting to the router.. which then provides the wireless links to the laptops.. But that would be silly.
