Default The K&N is not as thick as OEM filter. As for more room..

there are screws at each corner of the airbox that when all are removed will provide more room to work with. Disconnecting the hoses on the top of the box will help as well. It is possible to swap without removing everything, but it will be tight.

Default really? maybe you 1.8ters are different. on my 3.0, the stock filter was probably 1.5 inches thick

and the box is probably a good 6 inches.

Default Those screws only secure the heatshield. Once you...

undo the screws at each corner, you should be set. As for the filter itself, I have tried the K&N but am not using it now.
