They are much, MUCH more comfortable. Every time I drive this car for more than 15 minutes I keep thinking that I should have gone with a 330 instead.
When I bought the car, I really didn't care that much about the seats; they felt fine to me. I have never had a problem with the seats in anything else that I've driven either, from tiny little beaters to other luxury cars. This is the only car in which I've had such trouble. I don't get it at all.
Ugh... Now the back pain is turning into a headache. Argh! =(

How far back do you move the seat?
How far back do you recline the seat?
How far down do you have the seat?
How much tilt do you have in the seat bottom?
How bent are your arms / legs when driving?
... and do you have 'normal' proportions, or long legs, long back, etc.?
Thanks! Maybe I can salvage this after all...

Seat can still go back another 2 or 3 inches.
I would say the back of the seat is at like a 30 degree angle to the bottom.
The seat is all the way down, and the front is up just a little.
My arms are bent and no where near straight. I the arm rest in parallel to the e brake, I can rest my elbow on the end and still rap my hand around the wheel (thats the best analogy I can give you)
Also during a trip, i will mess with the lumbar support alot, like a massage....

And, BTW, the seats felt fine on the test drive. It's only after regular driving (i.e. to / from work every day) that it ends up getting to this point.
I am pissed off that the designers of a $40k car cannot get the seats right. No other car I have driven for either a short or long period of time has wreaked this kind of havoc on my back.
I'd like to keep this car, I really would. But if I can't figure out a comfortable seating position, I'm going to have to ditch this thing.

They also hold me in better and feel more sporty. But I am also a smaller build and 5'10, so it helps. I am very comfortable driving this car for long periods of time.

How much do you use the lumbar support in your 'normal' posture?
How much thigh support do you get from the seat?
And where do you feel the most pressure from the seat on your back? Is it even throughout, more near the lower back, more near the shoulders / neck?

I always thought the B5 seats (non-sport) in my 1996 A4 were super comfortable.
I find the seats in my 2003 A4 to be not as nice. My back is sometimes uncomfortable and with the little seat bolsters my thighs always feel like they're sliding off during cornering.
