Default Optimal shift points for best acceleration...chipped (m)

Does everyone still agree with the data in this thread? I just ran against my buddy's 04 GLI (stock) and we were pretty much dead even ( I went close to redline on every shift).

I was expecting to be pulling on him at least after 2nd gear because of the chipping but no such luck. So, I figured because of the hp/tq differences, there is probably a better methodology for shifting. This is the best I could find from a search...

1-2 shift at ~6530 rpm (~33.5 mph)
2-3 shift at ~6400 rpm (~57 mph)
3-4 shift at ~6030 rpm (~81.7 mph)
4-5 shift at ~5850 rpm (~104 mph)

This also bares the question, are gears 1-5 the same in a 5sp vs. 6spd? This graph was apparently drawn up for 5spds. Also, is the gearing different for FrontTrak vs. Quattro?

Thanks guys!<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/196642.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/196642.phtml</a</li></ul>

Default I'd think it might even be better to shift earlier than that- Our cars tend to run...

out of steam around 5500rpm. I know people have addressed this before, and came up with shift points starting at redline in 1st and moving toward the mid-5000rpms in high gears, IIRC.

Default While on the subject, anyone know if the ECU logs an over-rev for exceeding RPMs...

I notiched tonight that the APR program allows me to exceed the factory rev limiter. I had a buddy that chipped an M coupe and started having motor problems. He went to the dealership and they found a code indicating an over-rev, and they promptly denied his warranty claim and they exchanged fingers.

Can we expect the same thing from our ECU logging?

Default

For the 1-2 shift I'm at 6k, then for the rest I'm around 5500. I don't know if this is best or not

Default you want to shift in each gear such that...

You are at maximum torque after the shift.
In these cars, that does NOT mean a redline shift. It will take some work to figure out...

Default Yup, I would tend to agree with that. 1 and 2 go by so quick I start bringing it down to 5500...

at third and up.
