OT: Self-service auto storage

I have a potential lead on purchasing a second "fun" car. Only problem is that my current house just will not work for more than two cars (this would be the 3rd car).
I'm trying to brainstorm ways of making this work until we get to the point of buying a 3-car-friendly new house (2-3 years) so I'm considering renting a self-storage unit to store the fun car when not in use. Has anybody done anything like this? Will your typical self-storage facility even allow this? There is a new place down the street from work so I'm going to check on the way home but figured somebody here may have gone through something similar. Other than the self-storage idea, anybody have any other options for storing a vehicle that is only an occasional driver?
The level-haeded side of me is saying that I'm crazy for even considering this but the fun-loving side of me says to do it now while I'm still young :-)
