Default Overkill for automatic windshield wiping after washing

You know how the windshield wipers automatically swipe 2 or 3 times after you spritz the windshield? And then it pauses and swipes one more time. By the last swipe, the windshield is dry and the extra swipe only smears up the windshield. Can I do anything about this? It's getting kind of annoying.

Default Yes...

After you spray the windshield, pull down on the stalk while the wipers are still moving. This will disable the delayed wipe.

Default Is there anyway to use the wiper fluid W/OUT the fluid hitting the stupid wiper blades?

seems the fluid hits the wipers all the time. is there a way to spray fluid and then delay the wipers for a second?

Default try this...

This is what the dealer showed me...

Pull the stick a little bit, enough to get the wipers moving but no spray. While the wipers are up, pull again to spray the water, stop when the wipers are coming down. Repeat until clean.

So you have to self-time it b/c the folks at Audi seemed to have overlooked this.

Default Thanks everyone. :)

I had stumbled across Shaun's trick, but wasn't sure if it would break anything.

Default How about an old-type foot pump?

Old VW Polo models had a foot-operated bellows pump. With that you could squirt as much washer fluid on your windshield before turning on the wipers. KISS, Audi!

Default I've tried the timing method below, but I found something that worked better...

I got a long sewing needle and stuck it into the washer nozzles. They can be adjusted in any direction by moving the needle like a joy stick. I just aimed mine up to hit the windshield higher. Word of caution though, if you live in a warm climite right now be sure to close your sunroof before attempting this job. It will take many tries before you get the stream to hit the window in the right spot (unless your just lucky!). Sometimes the aim will be off so bad that you may find that your giving yourself a shower in WW fluid with the sunroof open.
