Default Overseas Speeding Ticket: @ Land of the LOTR (more)

So, I was visiting South Island where LOTR was filmed, enjoying the spectacular views whilst my foot was a little too heavy on the pedal.

The NZ Hwy Patrol radar-ed me doing 120kmh in a 100km zone. So, he hands me the tix, and tells me that the highways aren't as big and fast as California's freeways.. wtf? and tells me I can pay the fine @ any bank branch even on Saturdays.

So, I am back now in Cali, and received the summons in my mail. I figure their mail system will continue to send death threats over for sometime.

I think I will simply send the letter back stating "no resident/return to sender" and ignore this.

Question is:
1) Will this NZ authorities pursue this even if overseas?
2) Will DMV ever be informed of this? I will not be going to NZ again. Seen it all, did it all, so I don't really care.

Feedback and advice much appreciated. Thanks.

Default i cant imagine any further repurcussion other than if you return to nz and drive...

but id confirm that as i really dont have any basis other than that it seems out of the realm of reality that a foreign gov't is gonna do whatever possible to collect $$ on you as a u.s. citizen

Default i'd say they will do nothing unless you return

for example. my friend got a ticket in VA on his way to michigan... he never went to court, never did anything about it.

his driving priveledges in VA are now revoked... SO.... he just can't get caught driving there.

but nothing else happened

Default to what I have been told - they will just keep sending you letters

and you won't be able to rent another car over there if you go back. DMV won't get noticed of anything.

Default Well, it's technically possible, since you committed a criminal offense over there..

..but highly highly unlikely. I think they'd have to request an extradition from the US and have you brought back over to NZ for a trial. There's no way they'd do that to recover the amount of a speeding ticket.

Then again i'm no laywer, so what do I know.

If you don't pay it you'll have an arrest warrant most likely..pay it and be done with it

Default Unless you plan to visit NZ again, I wouldn't bother with paying, there's nothing they can do.

Even if you go, unless you get pulled over again, I don't think anything can happen to you.
