Default Paging: Anyone with an Alpine IVA-D300 or has good knowledge of them.

I'm having some trouble with mine. I can't seem to get the DVD mode to activate. Therefore, I can't view DVDs nor can I access certain settings (i.e. setting time, titling CDs and radio stations). My good buddy (who installs car stereos) checked all the wiring going to both the head and brain units and couldn't determine why the DVD mode won't kick on. He even installed a "black box" that automatically bypasses the need to engage the parking brake, yet that didn't do the trick either. I was going to take it to him later this week and have him contact Alpine customer service, but I was wondering if there's anything you guys could tell me before that. Perhaps we're missing something? Or, is it just a defect? Now, another thing I was wondering:

^Notice the "SYS." button next to the time?

^This is what is displayed after pressing that 'button'. Should there be some sort of function for the far right button or is it supposed to be blank (given that I have no expansion units connected to the head unit like a CD changer or nav unit)?

I greatly appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

Default Scott: Few Questions for ya. Feel free to respond via email,.......

1) What is included (head unit, nav unit, harnesses, etc.?)

2) Do we lose the functionality of our center channel speaker and rear deck sub when installing an aftermarket head unit like this?

3) Do you have any experience installing this in the A4?

5) How old is this model? Does alpine still offer updates to the software and is it under warranty?

6)How Much are you asking?

I already have a nav (roadmate 700) that I paid around 1300 for, the only problem is that the screen is small and it doesnt have the ability to play dvd's or other media.

Default RE: nav

the navigation and dvd head unit were previously installed in a 2004 bmw 325xi. no prior issues whatsoever the only reason it is forsale is that the new '05 330ci has the oem bimmer nav. the pictures in the thread i posted show all that is needed to install it in your car minus the audi face plate. i believe the unit is is dolby digital (i will check) therefore all speakers should be working. all were functional at least in the bimmer. the sub will certainly work with the unit. the unit was installed not by me but by local audi shop on long island and was one of the cleanest jobs ive seen performed. allt he wires were spliced clipped and tied with a professional style. the model is about 7 months new and is flawless. no scratches, no marks, no issues at all that i have seen or wittnessed. the current maps are the latest versions but yes alpine does update maps in which case you can most likely buy them burned or new from ebay.

i am selling the unit as a set not just the head unit dvd player. for the head unit IVA-D300 i would like $999. they are going for over 1300 on ebay used, and for the navigation drive model NVE-N852A i would like around $820, once again around $300 cheaper then they are going for on ebay.

the head unit will allow you to watch dvd movies with the dvd drive behind the screen and the dvd navigation unit will play the dvd maps. this is cool cause you can have a movie in and still use the navigation.

and almost forgot the cooleast part about this nav. the touchscreen is sensative and actually makes a beep noise (if you want) when you push it. its very hard to explain but alpine tried to emulate actually pushing a button. there are tiny sensors on back of the screen and you can feel it flex and almost vibrate your finger. sorry if i lost you but you will understand what i mean when you push it. check out the pictures i posted and if i diddnt clearify anything for you let me know and i will try to get all the answers.

Default btw, sorry for the crap pictures, and just side note, if you are willing to sacrifice oem...(more)

this is probably the best unit available not only for price but on market. i am sure you can read testaments from other oweners.

Default It's the Alpine Safety feature that's keeping the DVD from working as well as some other settings.

You have to either get that black box you can buy on e-bay to defeat this or you need to rig a switch to simulate the E-brake.

What Alpine does is make you have to be stopped w/ the E-brake up. Basically when the HU is powered up, it looks for the brake pedal to be depressed, then the E-brake pulled up and then the brake pedal released. Once the brake pedal is released, the Video/(other setting) will work. If you look in the manual, you will see which wires need to done in that order. They are the yellow/blue & yellow/black...but I can't remember which is for the E-brake and which is for the brake pedal. Easiest thing to do is buy one of those "black boxes" off E-bay. Rather have that then a couple switches in the car. Basically what the "black box" does is simulate that action above.

Good luck.
