Default Parking Brake

Local dealer finally got a 3.0 manual that I could test drive. Wonderful car, only one complaint...I CAN'T BELIEVE that you have to raise the center arm rest to fully engage the parking brake! This is the kind of thing that I wouldn't expect of Detroit, let alone Ingolstadt. I might still buy the car, but only if I'm sure I can tolerate what is likely to be a lingering irritation.

Default It isn't that bad.

You get used to it rather quickly, and the placement of the arm rest is worth it.

Plus the brake grabs on 2-3 clicks which does not require moving the arm rest.

I had exactly the same impression, a step backwards in ergonomic design.

Default Re: Parking Brake

I thought I'd have an issue with it, but I still bought the car cause I didn't classify it as a deal buster. And I was right.
The arm rest is definitely awesome. I need it higher than most armrests are...and it's perfect in that you can adjust it.
Dustin said it right...you only need to lift the brake up 2 or 3 clicks...
Don't worry about it....the way the car drives, the way it handles, and how cool the car is in general...
the parking brake is minor..

Default Obviously you've never done pre or post-flight reviews...

...and maybe you like jumping in and out of the car through the open driver's window ala Dukes of Hazard style. I mean, the door does get in the way and it's such a bother to have to open and close.

Better that than further limiting how far down the arm rest can go.

Better than a floor parking brake.

Default same designer must have done the console sides

My ONLY two beefs so far is the brake and the high-rise console side that my knee rubs agains. Have to say that so far EVERYTHING else is an improvement over our '99 2.8 and it's a great car, maybe the best we've had.
