Default Parking lot dent = $2235.50...

Someone backed into my right rear quarter panel and bumper cover while I was parked. Of course, no note.

Just got the $2200 estimate. Wow. I knew it would be real body work, but, wow. Both panels have to be replaced, and it's 20 hours of labor just for the quarter panel intall (without painting etc.). All kinds of things have to be taken apart for the job, including taking out the rear window. Whoodathunkit.

Pro: I have insurance. Con: I have a $1000 deductible. Oops.

Default Someone did that to my car too and it cost $2000 CDN incl labour. (m)

The sheet metal in the rear quarter panel was actually torn. I guess someone's bumper or corner caught onto the fender's lip and ripped it. Sucks...

Default Well, I can believe the panels need to be replaced...

Big dent, complex shape to the panel. And as long as the bill is over $1000, it's up to State
Farm to figure out what's reasonable.

Default Same exact damage to my Avant - rear quarter panel and bumper - $2000.14 was my estimate

so it sounds in the ballpark. Mine was hardly damaged but the bumper alone is over $400.

Default I'd consider paying out of pocket up to a point over your deduct...

$2k is a little much but I'd strongly consider paying out of pocket and keeping insurance out of it is it's anywhere near your deduct. I know it wasn't your fault but insurance companies have a way of turning any claim against you downt the road. I'd also get another estimate...20 hours to replace the panel?

Default Only $1650 for me! I got off cheap!

That, plus the fact that a cop witnessed it and made the guy wait for me to get out of the movie i was at

Course, it took 4 months to get into a shop and get it repaired. That part sucked

Default Good point, but the claim is being processed already...

Anyway, even if I found someone for $300-400 less, I'd probably still have insurance pay. And this shop comes highly recommended, so I'll feel more comfortable letting them "chop off the quarter", as they put it (I still shudder to think what my car will look like during this work). There will also be $150+ in rental car costs during the work, and insurance will cover 80% of that.
