How can this problem be avoided? I just recently ordered a K&N drop in filter of the Neuspeed website.. and after reading all the posts about an MAF Failure.. I'm really getting scared and I don't think I can cancel my order. Eeek! Should I still install? is it worth it? and again.. how many people really had problems? TIA

my advice to you is to simply throw out the filter after 50k which is the initial cleaning time and purchase a new filter. Most persons will acclaim to MAF failure from over oiling which is needed for cleaning purposes.

never had a MAF failure due to a K&N. The whole MAF failure thing was based on - guess what - BAD MAF'S from the factory and the dealer using excuses to not honor the warranty. There isn't ANY real HP gains maybe one or two but the thing I like is that one - they last forever and two you can clean them when you need to. Like after driving on dirt roads alot etc. If you clean and oil it correctly you won't have a problem. In fact - a K&N will be going in my new 04 Avant which will be here tomorrow.
