Default Picked up my car today... quick question...

I got my car today...! You guys have been a good source of info and entertainment during the time I've bene waiting for the car. All I can say is that it lives up to all my expectations. I have a quick question though: Is it bad to downshift during the breakin period? I do it by habit as I'm approaching lights and corners. Also, I thought it is interesting that my dealer told me not to baby the car during breakin, just don't drive too long at the same RPM.

Default yeah, dealer told me it's already broken in (at 87 miles) and said i can do whatever i want...

pshaw rite!

many debates to this question, but do your homework and you'll feel comfortable. added note, check your oil often cuz you will have to top off

Default I wouldnt downshift if the revs will past 4k

I still think a proper break-in is still worth it in the long run. Dont listen to everything the dealer says...Audi's are still cars.

Default That's actually a good break-in technique....don't remember exactly why, but i think it helps by

creating a vacuum that helps seal the valves...thus, less "blow by" so more hp and better gas mileage

Default Not sure why you would do that with any car, since brakes are cheaper than tranny but....

Dealer told me no need to worry about break-in for motor, just take it easy on brakes for first 1000 miles, try to avoid panic stops (not that I go looking for them now, with 6k...). Still, I kept to about 3k when shifting for first 500, then 4k for next 500.

Valves and rings are sealed by pressure, not vacuum
