Default Picking up new 1.8T tomorrow, a few questions

I brought my 2000 A4 1.8T in for a tuneup today and ended up buying a 2004 A4 1.8T with ultrasport, light package, etc. The car is Dolphin Gray and looked just gorgeous, a test drive sealed the deal.

I had actually been considering the 3.0, but at the altitude I am at (5,000 feet) the 3.0 actually felt lethargic compared to the 1.8T.

I have a couple of Q's. Do you guys have any recommendations about winter tires for the huge RS4 18" wheels? With my current A4 I had seperate snow tires mounted on a seperate set of wheels, I will have a set of 17" Ace Lolas leftover after I give the dealer my 2000 A4 so maybe I can use those on the new car?

My current (soon to be former) car is chipped... the new car is much more powerful than my 2000 was when stock, but I still think I'd like to chip it, does anyone know if APR is still the preferred chiptuner for Audi? I had excellent response from them on my 2000.

Default Yes and Yes

You can run your 17" Ace Lolas on your 04 A4. The bolt patterns are identical (5 x 112).

Yes, APR is still a preferred vendor. Most people go with APR. There are a few others out there like GIAC, MTM, and Neuspeed, but that's about all I know as I am a 3.0 guy.

Congrats on the car.

Default Experience with 17' sport rims in snow

I would seriously recommend getting a real set of snow tires for this car. I spent about a month in big sky MT this winter and even the 17s with the all seasons left A LOT to be desired.

Sounds like you're at altitude and deal with real winter....it makes driving in the snow more fun...I found that the smaller the sidewall the less forgiving the car is in the snow. Just my 2 cents, but another good thing about getting a winter setup is not dinging up the rims in the winter.

Default Why is that?

In my experience the 1.8T engine is easily moddable to the V6 performance levels for a much lower price.

Default I had dunlop wintersports

On the A4 16" factory wheels from my old car and was very impressed with the performance of them. I will probably get another set for my 17" wheels and only run the 18" RS4 wheels with performance rubber.

Default One more Q (after-run oil pump?)

The dealer said I won't need to worry about letting the turbo cool down after running the new car hard, but he didn't think it had an after run oil pump... does anyone know the real skinny on this?

Default there is not an after run oil pump

more than likely you probably don't have to "cool" the car down before turning it off, but it is a good idea to, especially if you want to increase the longevity of your engine life.
