Please help a dummy with lease payment calculation...
MSRP on a A4 is $31800, neg. price is $30500. On a 48 month lease with 12,000 allowable miles I have a Residial of 51% and a MF of .00250, I put $1000 down so my cap cost is $29500. Montly payment is $391. With 6% tax payment becomes $414.46 . My salesman is quoting me $457. Am I getting screwed? Am I missing something? Are there any other costs that I have overlooked? Thanks in advance to you all. I'm stressing a little, I ordered this car with the promise the payments whould be at or close to $400/month. Now I got a new salesman who won't budge on the payment.

I think you are forgetting the rental fee
Logically the way you are thinking of it is correct but for the dealer to make money on a lease not just breakeven they include a rental fee for the term of the lease. Although I am not sure how it is determined you lease is a bit higher then mine my sticker was 33 and change and I negotiated to 30,400 with 1500 down and I financed the tax for 48 mths with 12,000 a year my tax rate is 7.875 percent and my moneyly pymt is 448.50 hope that helped

What state is the car being reg'd in? Without knowing if the taxes are sales/use etc no way
to answer your question...
Assuming it's sales tax on the payment and cap red tax then something is wrong, it should be 415..
