Default Please help me to understand ...

Hi everybody ...

I just surprised yesterday when I knew that the fuel economy for (city/highway)
2002 Passat 1.8T tiptronic 21/30 ...
2001 Audi A4 1.8T tiptronic 20/29 ...
2002 Audi A4 1.8T CVT 20/29 ...

This is really wired because the CVT should be the best fuel economy of these cars but when I compare between the 2001 Tip and 2002 CVT, I found it the same !!! Why does that happen ? Shoulden't the CVT be better then the regular Tip in this point ?
OK,, Even it's the same,, I'd like to know why does the Passat has better fuel economy ?! It's the same engine !!
If you have any information about it, please share it with us ..

Thanks

Default I know, the point is, from the figures ive shown, the CVT is clearly as good as manual

and the tip isnt made anymore apart from in quattro.
The CVT is a lot better than the tip when compared as a past versus now technology.

The 2002 1.8T figures:

EPA fuel economy estimatesİ÷(city/highway)
manual, FrontTrak˘ç: 21/29
multitronic˘â, FrontTrak˘ç: 20/29
manual, quattro˘ç: 21/29
Tiptronic˘ç, quattro˘ç: 19/28

Curb weight (lbs)
multitronic˘â, FrontTrak˘ç: 3362
Manual, FrontTrak˘ç: 3252
Manual, quattro˘ç: 3406
Tiptronic˘ç, quattro˘ç: 3550

0-60 seconds
manual, FrontTrak˘ç: 7.8
multitronic˘â, FrontTrak˘ç: 7.8
manual, quattro˘ç: 7.9
Tiptronic˘ç, quattro˘ç: 8.5

The 2001 1.8T figures:

EPA fuel economy estimates3 (mpg) - city/highway:
FrontTrak˘ç, manual: 23/32
FrontTrak˘ç, Tiptronic˘ç: 20/29
quattro˘ç, manual: 22/30
quattro˘ç, Tiptronic˘ç: 20/27

Curb weight (lbs.):
FrontTrak˘ç, manual: 2998
FrontTrak˘ç, Tiptronic˘ç: 3108
quattro˘ç, manual: 3241
quattro˘ç, Tiptronic˘ç: 3362

0-60 mph in seconds: (2000 model cuz 2001 was not listed)
FrontTrak˘ç, manual: 8.1
FrontTrak˘ç, Tiptronic˘ç: 9.5
quattro˘ç, manual: 8.4
quattro˘ç, Tiptronic˘ç: 9.9

The 2002 Passat GLS figures are:
1.8T Manual : 22/31 mpg
18T Tip : 21/30 mpg

Curb weight (lbs):
Manual : 3225
Tip: 3322

0-60 times are 7.9 for manual and 8.8 for tip!!

My conclusions... the CVT does the job because despite the 144 lbs in weight gain on the 2002 model, the fuel economy remains the same while the 0-60 time decreases by 1.7 seconds!! As for the 2002 Passat.. something tells me that the gearing on them are taller.. 8.8 0-60 time despite weighing in 40lbs lighter than the 2002 a4... that looks like the only reason (IMHO) that the feul economy is better.. but we are talkin 1 mpg on city or highway... and these numbers vary from owner to owner
