OK, so I just crunched the numbers and I'm floored. When I add up maintenance and repairs, car payment, insurance, and gas, my cost to drive my B6 Avant was about $1.11/mile over the 18K miles (1 year, 9 months) that I've owned it. Granted, I had a transmission to rebuild and R&I, but man that's steep. If you take out the transmission and clutch plus labor, my cost/mile is $0.84/mile.

In comparison, to lease my wife's '08 B7, plus insurance, Audi Care (maintenance included), and gas, is estimated to be $0.76/mile over 18K miles, and $0.58/mile for the life of the 3-year lease.



I assumed gas to average $3.00/gallon for this exercise.
