For the new senario I think you should only pass on the left
and move to the farthest right (slow) lane for driving in an attempt to avoid left lane "squatting." It is practically impossible in busy times but I think people putting along in the middle lane of a three lane highway in light traffic are almost as bad as those who drive (not pass) in the farthest passing lane to the left and feel they should decide how fast is appropriate for the fast lane to travel. If you spend a little time driving in Europe or the U.K. you will become totally spoiled and realize just how poor most N.A. drivers are (ability and awareness). Last time in England I was high beamed in the middle lane of an "M" roadway at about 90 MPH! They teach you very quickly.

I've met my fair share of poor N.A. drivers... trust me... the high beam thing goes (more)
over better in the UK and most of Europe, since they seem to be more civilized drivers.
Part of it is that petrol/gasoline and the price of cars and insurance is much higher over there than here... so the people that can afford to drive cars tend to be more affluent than the N.A. masses... Affluence usually, not always, indicates higher education... and hopefully courtesy and maturity.
I've seen people just "squat" in the passing lane here, get flashed, then do nothing... over and over again... some people flip you off for high beaming...
I kinda like the left/right/left/right alternating signals... more subtle...

For cheap fun, Dunlop SP8000. Toyo Proxes T1S for all around.
Michelin Pilots when I want to rock. Of course we have race wheels and tires coming soon:-)
The SP8000 is a better sport tire than the 9000. More grip, predictable break-away, good about not tramlining.
SP9000 much better in rain, and quieter. Does not have the grip of the 8000.
The Toyos are a nice light duty track tire that is good on the street. Fairly quiet and nice predictable grip.
The Pilots are great but pricey. Sticky, sticky, sticky,. Can be noisy and not very good in rain.
