The 6-spoke Avant sport package rims are OK, but I much prefer the 5-spokers that come on the A4 sedans. If it's not possible to get the 5-spokers from the factory on a special order car, will dealers do a switch for a modest charge ($200 or less)?

You might have some luck swapping with a sedan owner after purchase.

However I'm sure there would be some people here who would gladly swap wheels with you. And you can always ask your dealer, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I personally liked the 5-spokes better too, but the 6-spoke has grown on me and the more I see it the more I like it. I don't even have my car yet but I already like the 6-spokes!

I was thinking of oredering something almost exactly like your car minus the leather seats. How do you make sure you get the week 45+ build with the painted lowers and aluminum dash trim? My understanding is that the early build 2004's will have the gray lowers.

My car will not have painted lowers AFAIK. However the alu dash trim with the sport package will be standard from build week 22 as well as the auto dimming mirror (lighting package), Sirius satellite radio, 6-speed manual tranny and all season tires on the sport package.

Also if you didn't get leather that means you didn't get premium package which means that you will not get the nice driver information display (DIS) either. The 2004 without premium will have the information display that is the same as the one in the current Passats (except the W8, that one has the DIS) which does not have the radio information in it and it only takes up the lower half of the space between the speedo and the tach, the top half will have your warning lights on.
