Actually, prior to 1992 Audi used Pentosin, but it wasn't synthetic 11S version but Pentosin 7.1

Default You've had to put PS fluid in your car? I've never done it but maybe

the dealership did it one time under warranty. I couldn't tell you if they did but I know that they never told me that they did.

Better than running dry and at least you won't contaminate the system with plain PSF.

Default My power steering would start groaning when the fluid was low...

I would fill it up and that noise would go away.

Default Thanks. I'm using it. Any cold-flow issues is outweighed by the fact CHF-11S is not up to the job...

Like I explained, when the CHF gets hot, it thins so far the pump starts rubbing and produces even more heat. CHF is 6cSt, M1 ATF is one of the thinnest ATFs at 9cSt, not a massive difference, although the CHF has a huge VI and cold properties. Seeing how CHF is definately not working well in the hot, I'm willing to use the M1 ATF to keep wear/temps in check despite it does get thick at cooler temps, I will look into the exact viscs at those temps. Anyway, M1 ATF also has the AW/FM additives further reducing operating temps. I'd love to see a used analysis on old CHF WITH particle count, probally pretty ragged. You see here how Mobil oks it in PS systems calling for Dex, so I am not on crack.

Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF is recommended for power steering units where the manufacturer recommends a DEXRON® or MERCON® fluid. Many car makers recommend against the use of automatic transmission fluids and, instead, require the use of their own power steering fluids to provide maximum hose life and to minimize pump squeal and wear. (hmm, although CHF is sucking in this respect...pun intended)

http://www.mobil.com/USA-ENGLISH/Lubes/PDS/NAUSENPVLMOMobil_Multi-vehicle_ATF.asp</a

Default Dude, my Coupe Q was built in 1989, no sign of Dexron or ATF on PS bottle..

That fact that your shop uses it is irrelevant.
