My power steering is sporadically leaking and the mechanic told me it's not going to be cheap to fix.

Is it normal for a rack and pinion to go bad on a 2002? It seems like this shouldn't be happening to an 02 but I shouldn't be surprised given this cars shady reliability. Only difference is now I'm out of warranty.

Any idea how much it will cost?

I as well as others have had similar issues - it's one of the wonderful Audi mystery problems. I keep power steering fluid with me and fill it up periodically (it's especially noisy when it gets cold). Sorry that I don't know how/how much to fix.

Am having "groaning" sounds when steering and see that my power steering fluid is low. Does everyone recommend filling with Mineral Hydrolic Fluid over regular power steering fluid for my 1990 Coupe Quattro.
