PSA: don't leave your plastic key (or any key for that matter) in the glove box of your car.

Its a fully functioning spare key. Someone in the San Francisco area recently had their car stolen.
They left their key in the glove box and it is presumed that thieves broke into the car to steal items from the glove box but found the key in there and decided to steal the entire car instead.

the plastic key is "coded". In it it has a resonance chip that allows the car to start. It's meant for a last resort (if you lose your key) or (as some here have mentioned) for vallet parkers.

it will open the door, glove box, and trunk just like a regular key. And of course it will also start the car.
