Yes, really, if he's looking at a CVT, not a manual. He WILL notice the difference.

CVT will help more with resale. Get it or regret it.

Default Yeah, I've spent time in Tahoe. It's cool seeing all those Q's in the ditch...

...totally thinking Q allowed them to defy physics. Schmoes.

Default quattro doesnt really help acceleration much unless you have a sports clutch and a 400 bhp car

which can peel off with all 4 wheels squealing, anything less than that and it only helps acceleration in slippery situations, otherwise it impedes acceleration.

I share the same sentiments about the CVT.

I also agree with those statements.

Default Difference between what?

If you compare CVT to TIP w/ Quattro... In this case, I agree that a CVT is noticable faster. But that is not because of Quattro. Quattro is not what makes the TIP slower. It's because CVT is a better automatic transmission.

If you compare CVT to 5-speed Quattro... the only difference he will notice is the difference between shifting and not shifting. Speed is a non-issue between CVT and 5-speed. The CVT was created because a normal auto transmission (i.e. TIP) is slower than manual. In order to bridge that gap, CVT was designed to be an automatic that was just as fast as manual. I think the numbers prove this...

5-speed FT 0-60 = 7.8 sec.
5-speed QT 0-60 = 7.9 sec.
CVT FT 0-60 = either 7.8 or 7.9 (I forget without having the brochure in front of me).

The point is that speed is the same for all three cars. Quattro does not make the car noticably slower. It only weighs 150 pounds more.

Anyway, he wants a 5-speed, so all this CVT talk is irrelevant.

Nah, only the quattro is irrelevant.
