Default Quattro or NOT quattro

to all,
this is a option I am considering not getting. i will not be driving the car in the snow or hard in the rain. This will end up getting new coilover suspensions with 19" and body kit. So will the quattro be waste of money or should I get it. Also, has anyone extensively driven both quattro and non quattro to see the benefits of it? i am sure the quattro is better in lot of aspect, but under the same circustance as me has anyone gone quattro or non quattro. Would like to know.
thanks!
best regards,
LiL Raja

Default I had both..

Are you getting 1.8T?
If you considering putting bigger turbo, get quattro.
My old car was 1.8T FWD with chip and exhaust, and front tires barely hold the power.(225/45/17)
You can even do burn out in 2nd gear with stage 2 FWD 1.8T.
FWD is lighter, faster and cheaper.
So if you are not considering anything beyond stock k03 set up, fwd will be good choice for you.

Default I Wanna Know Too!

I'm thinking of skipping the Qauttro for my next Audi so that I can get the Multitronic. I'm in SoCal and wonder if I really need all wheel drive.

I've been driving my A4 Qauttro for the past 2 years. I'm an agressive driver, and it handles beautifully; But I wonder if my 1.8T's strong traction is due more to the sport suspension than the Quattro.

Since I wanna get the already heavy 3.0, I don't think I want the extra weight of the quattro. Should the sport package be enough for those tight 'n fast corners?

Default i've had both and quattro is clearly the way to go...

edit delete
I've owned both fwd and quattro's. I'll never own a nonquattro again... even though I've recently moved to Houston (read no snow).
The quattro advantage is seen in any situation with decreased traction (it rains everywhere!). Let's say you are stopped at an intersection waiting to make a Left turn... when you realize that there is no way the car behind you is going to stop in time... so you stomp on the gas, in a fwd you spin your wheels... with quattro you just go... on your merry way, no crunched sheet metal no trips to the ER.
Resale value. Look at used audi prices for 3-10 year old cars... the quattros command $$$ more than the FWD. Example NADA '96 A4 $16,875 add $2200 (a $1500 option in '96) if quattro! '92 80 $6900, 80q $8200.
So at 1,750 don't you want/need the technollogy banned by the BTC championship as an "unfair advantage"
best of luck... bring on the rain

Default Given 19s and a serious suspension drop are your main concerns, and QTR has more to do with

handling and bad weather safety, you should consider the FWD.

If you were performance oriented, I would tell you to get QTR all day long.

A FWD Audi has a nice driving fluency that the QTR does not have. It's limits are lower and therefore more fun at lower speeds. If you plan to go beyond 240hp, the FWD gets a little unhappy.

The QTR gives you a larger handling margin and remains more consistant over that range. It can handle more power if you plan to go for a big turbo later.

If you keep the 19 inch wheels under 25lbs, handling and ride should be pretty good.

Default If you care about resale value get the quattro

In the end it may not cost you any more to add the quattro. I just traded my 2001 fwd (for a 2002 w/quatto) and I found that even here in Arizona, a car with quattro was worth almost 2k more. That's more the the the cost of adding quattro in the first place.

Default NOT quattro

You'll get a more agile car that will accelerate better than consume less fuel. I had two AWD cars.

Now, light weight is more important to me.

If light weight is really more important to you, why don't you drive a VW gti or an equivalent?

Only reason I can see to not get Quattro is to get CVT (not available yet on Quattro).
