Default Question about my 2004 b6 a4 1.8t 6mt (the exhaust rusted off)

Ok, I got an incredible deal on an a4 6mt 1.8t Quattro a couple years ago. For the past 2 years it has run perfectly aside from the sunroof mechanism and I’ve fallen in love with the brand. That being said, my exhaust rusted off and I’m now driving around sounding like a ricer accord with some added gurgle. I honestly love the sound, but I know it can’t be good for the engine and the turbo doesn’t seem to be getting the correct back pressure (words from my mechanic, not gonna pretend to understand that). My question is, are there cheaper and/or better options than replacing the stock exhaust? I’m not really interested in upping my numbers as I’m sitting on 170,000 miles but I would like to restore the smooth feeling of acceleration and wouldn’t mind some backtalk from the engine.

My situation is a little different than yours, in that I did (do) not care about a non-stock sound. My Y-pipe was rusting badly (where the single exhaust branches off to the mufflers). I had two choices, OEM at about $500+ for the part, or an aftermarket replacement (the one most commonly used) for about $350 as I recall. I went for the cheaper pipe, and it was a big mistake. The car now has this truck-like drone to it that I hate, but not quite bad enough to spend $700 to go back to Audi oem. If I could back up in time, however, I would do just that. It isn't just the loudness, it's the droning - I've never gotten used to it.

My advice: if your looking for something more like a cat-back system, find one to listen to first. Otherwise, you may end up with the automotive version of a wife you can't get away from, who talks all the time about stuff you don't want to hear
