Default Question about Staggered Wheels setup (19s)

I spoke with an Audi technician yesterday. He said if I went with a staggered setup i.e. 265s for back and 235s for front, this would essentially defeat the purpose of ESP and Quattro may not perform up-to-par. It makes sense since the width of the rim/tire is not proportional. Any opinions? Thanks.

Default you think the note in your manual about having to use 4 identical tires is for no reason? ;-)

Even if you manage to keep the overall diameter the same, the rolling resistance will change and may damage the torsen in the long run.

Default I agree. If you have front trak I'd say hit.

but quattro is not one to mess with. I think it would be more effected if you were to have a different size overall diameter. But fluctuating sizes in any event doesn't sound good to me.

Default wheel/tire diameter should NOT be different front to back but width can be different

I would assume this because my dad's 2002 Porsche C4S has 225 in front and 295 in the rear. That car is awd and those are drastically different sizes. Honestly i dont see the purpose of staggering tire widths because it would most likely make the car understeer much much more. Just my .02

Default The Porsche

One - this car has extreme weight in the rear and needs the added width in the rear and the thinner wheel in front to make the handling more neutral.

Also - the Porsche has the torque split 20/80 f/r if I remember correctly.

Default eh, yup, but the principles would be the same right? Maybe the p-car system...

Makes up for the different rolling resistances in its design. Who knows, you would have to ask a porsche tech about it.

Default ok, that is fairly obvious

however all that i was saying is that the widths can be different front to rear but on an A4 ( a very front-heavy car) this would be stupid and pointless as it would have a detrimental effect on handling.
