my friend's friend bought a '05 1.8TQ a month after mine...so 9/04. Only has 2500 miles currently on it as she goes to school in Boston and only uses it to do errands and get around the city.
She went to New York for an internship position and is leaving her car at my friend's house till end of August when she returns. She's in the city so she really has no need for the car there.
How bad is it to leave the car sitting there for so long? I mean, it's only got 2500 miles so pretty new, don't think she's had her first service yet =P so it'll pretty much a year old by the time she returns end of summer with only 2500 miles on it. Bad to leave the oil sittin' in there?
just kinda curious for my own interest about leaving a car that long un-used...

honestly, i'd see if she'd let your friend drive it even just a few miles a week, just to give the engine some use...it'd be way better for the car than just an oil change and storage

my first car was an 89 Ford Taurus that I inherited from my grandmother...13 years old w/ 30k miles...18k miles later, the tranny died due to seals that had rotted out from a lack of use :-/...great car other than that, and would've gone for much longer i'm sure had it gotten regular use....

That way the oil circulates around and coats things. Letting the car sit for several weeks is not ideal as seals dry out and oil drains to the sump - leaving components without protection.
SO - if leaving the car, at the very least arrange for someone to run the engine to warm every few days.

watch out for a cracked or dried up head gasket. Its only pennies to purchase but cost hundreds to fix. If the car isn't driven then the gasket is not properly lubricated, and may lead to mroe problems. A few miles a week should be fine.
