Default Question about what gas we can use on 1.8T

As you might have heard it is a kind of hard to find fuel in Atlanta and have been out of fuel for 2 days. Regular (87) seems to be available again but do not feel like filling her up with regular.
Does the ecu compensate for this by advancing the timing? Hey I have been driving around with my fiancees honda and a 5 gallon tank hoping I will find premium one day soon... It really feels like living in a 3 th world country...:-)

Unchipped- I wouldn't sweat a few tanks. Chipped... keep your foot off the throttle.

Default We are in the same boat in CLT. Im stock programming so I'm not too worried...

Plus I haven't felt any difference. But I have been using OTC octane booster just for the peace of mind.

Default OTC octane booster = waste of money, period. It's boosting your octane by points, you do understand

that right?

By points, that means .1, .2, .3. So if it boosts your octane by three points, guess what? You're running 89.3 octane.

Big f'in deal.

Default the trick is, no boost!

you can run 87, just dont hammer on the car! you should be fine as long as you keep the boost numbers down

Default I make my own octane booster...

At only $10 a gallon at a local hardware store, Toluene raises the octane about 14 points, or in your case, 88.4 when you fill up with 87 octane gas. Much cheaper and more effective than any OTC octane booster.

~~~Technical info~~~
That's also a great way to swell and ruin rubber hoses and fittings.
Default How do you figure?
Note that Toluene has synonyms -mainly Methacide, Methylbenzene, Methylbenzol, Phenylmethane, and Toluol. If you read the MSDS carefully, you will notice that aromatic hydrocarbons are used in virtually every fuel. Yes, there are other hydrocarbons, but the most popular is Toluene. The point is that common gas has a significant percentage of aromatics (section 4.13). So, if your running gasoline, your running Toluene or an equivalent, thus making Toluene completely safe to all the fuel system components.
