Question for CVT owners

what happens when you hold the brake on and try to rev the engine, in other words can you launch such a transmission at say 3 or 4,000?

You haven't been able to do that on any Drive-by-Wire car. When the ECU sees you on the brakes, it refuses to open the throttle.
Now with the CVT, anytime you floor it (assuming you're not on tbe brakes) the tranny should gear itself so as to allow the engine to run at whatever RPM peak HP is achieved. Effectively, you will get high-RPM launches. I imagine the RPM, gearing, and throttle opening will be reduced if wheelspin is detected. I expect the electronics (ECU, TCU and ABS all talking to each other on a high-speed network) will be smart enough to keep the front wheels right on the verge of wheelspin at low speeds..
