Default Question on Heat/AC fan speed

Quick question. I have an '04 1.8TQ and when I leave the AC/Heating system in full auto the fan noise is noticable out of the dash vents and the main vents above the radio.

However, if I hit the dirction buttons to divert the air to all three settings it gets less noticable. I did check the fan speed and it remains constant.

Just curious if anyone else noticed the same conditions as it is somewhat annoying to hear the fan even when it's only at about 'four bars'.

Thanks for any feedback.

Default that doesn't sound right. what's the sound like? at 4 bars my system is pretty quiet. I would

take it to the dealership and complain, unless it's just normal air rush noise.

It sounds like the fan is pushing the air through the vents. It just sounds like is running faster than you would expect based on running below half speed. Maybe I'm too sensitive but I will mention this at the 5K service and see what the feedback is.

If there's anything interesing I'll post the findings.

Default oh, I thought you were going to say there was a whistling or a low tone sound...

if it's just air rush noise, then it might be normal and you're just too sensitive to it. If it's a droaning sound with a low tone then you could have misaligned ducting inside your dash. The last thing you want them to do is tear into your Intrument panel and then putting it back together. You'd probably end up with more squeaks and rattles then what you started with.

Default Re: Question on Heat/AC fan speed

I've noticed the same thing with my '04 Avant 1.8T. The reason I noticed it was because the fan noise was much less in my '03 Avant. Both were brand new vehicles (my son totaled the '03--he's OK but that's another story).
To me it seems the '04 doesn't slow down as much when it gets to temperature. I have to turn it down manually to 2 bars or so to cut the noise down.

2004.5 and mine seems to run at to high a fan speed for temp selection on auto also...I'll be asking about that a first oil change. Climate control should work better
