I'm in the market for an A4 and have a couple of questions regarding the Xenon option. I have read some details in this forum (great forum btw!!!) but would like to have a couple of things confirmed:

1. For regions with DRL (I'm in Canada), the Fogs are used?
2. For Low beams, Xenon and Fogs? Or are the DRLs turned off when you turn on your low beams?
3. For High beams, Halogen + Xenon + Fogs?

You can switch between country modes using VAG-COM.

USA (mode 3):
No DRLs. Fogs only come on with low beams. No fogs when high beams are on.
Canada (mode 4):
DRLs use the fog lights. Front fogs will run with parking lights only (with or without low beams). However, rear fogs will only come on when the headlights are on.
Netherlands (mode 2) and Denmark (mode 5):
DRLs use the low beams when the switch is in the off position. In the parking lights position, only parking lights are on (no white lights).
Rest of the world (mode 1):
No DRLs, front and rear fog lights will come on with or without low beams, and will stay on with high beams.

If you use VAG-COM, open controller 9. The software code is 000xy.
X = 0 with halogens
X = 1 with xenons
Y = mode described above.

So, here in the States, my car arrived with coding 00013, and I changed it to 00011 (I have OEM xenons).

Is it possible to turn only fog lights? In my friends 01 A4 he can turn on the fogs alone, during the day and dusk, but on my 02 I am pretty sure that they will only come on if lights are on. Am I correct? Is there a way to fix it? Thanks

For the 2001 model, there is a mod where you physically disconnect the front fog lights from the rest of the controls. Thus, the front fogs are completely independent of the headlights, parking lights, and high beams.

With the 2002+ models, you can change the lights' behavior with the VAG-COM tool and your laptop. If you activate the "fogs only" setting, the front fog lamps will turn on with the parking lights, with or without the low beams.

So, you would turn the **** one notch to the right (turning on the yellow parking lights in front and the red taillights in back) and pull the **** out one notch (turning on the front fogs).

Fogs are typically off for nighttime driving (i.e. non DRL mode) but you can obviously turn them on if you want.
