Question: What are the potential problem areas for the 1.8 Avant?
I'm finally settling in on this platform for our next "Familycar"/occasional track machine. Probably will get on 02-03 5 speed. Though I haven't ruled out the 04-05 6 speed.
What are the common failure areas for these cars? Any input or personal experience would be appreciated - whether it's minor trim pieces braking, DV failures (which I know about having a TT), or other major things. Thanks in advance.

Coil packs (both 1.8T & 3.0); turbo failure...
I had the same questions when deciding between the 1.8T and 3.0. I finally went for the 3.0.
En route to the local stealership, I saw a B5 1.8T engulfed in flames on the side of the Capital Beltway. One 4-ring car-B-cue, coming right up. Thus speaking to the turbo failure thing. (But I've been assured that such fantastic episodes aren't usual.)
